Visitation Policy
Welcome to visiting our hospital, whether to see mom and baby, a surgery or cancer patient.Woman’s Visitation Policy
- Visiting hours are 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., except for the NICU where visiting hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Any visitors who have been exposed to an illness in the last 3 weeks or have a fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat or other symptoms of illness are asked not to enter the hospital.
- All adult visitors are required to check in at the front desk with a government-issued photo ID to receive their Fast Pass visitor badge.
- All minors must be accompanied by an adult, other than the patient, at all times.
- Smoking, alcohol, firearms or other weapons are not allowed anywhere on the hospital’s campus.
- We have a zero tolerance policy. Visitors who refuse to adhere to the hospital policies or behave in a disruptive manner will be asked to leave the premises and may not be allowed reentry.
Contact a Patient
- To contact a patient, please call the operator at 225-927-1300. Calls will only be forwarded to the patient's room between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM.
- If the patient is still in Labor and Delivery or Surgery, she can only make outgoing calls from the telephone in her room; the telephone cannot receive incoming calls.
- A maximum of 4 visitors may be present while a patient is in labor and recovering in a Labor and Delivery room.
- Minors are allowed to visit the Labor and Delivery room under adult supervision. Patient’s children are allowed to visit at all times; All other minors must visit during visiting hours. An adult, other than the patient, must supervise minors at all times. Minors will need supervision during delivery by an adult not present for delivery.
- A maximum of 4 visitors may be present in the Labor and Delivery room during the delivery.
- A maximum of 2 visitors may be present in the Prep/Recovery room.
- A maximum of 2 adult visitors may be present in the Labor and Delivery operating room.
- The number of persons in the Labor and Delivery room may be limited at the discretion of the delivering physician at any time. If any unforeseen complications occur, all family and visitors may be asked to leave the Labor and Delivery room.
- Additional visitors will be allowed to wait in the Labor and Delivery waiting room. If the maximum capacity of the waiting room is exceeded, family members may be asked to wait in another location.
After the baby is born, both mom and baby will go to Mother/Baby to recover.
- Patients are allowed to have their children and 4 adult visitors during visiting hours (7:00 AM to 9:00 PM).
- 1 visitor (14 years and older) may stay with patient overnight.
- Please don’t stand in the hallway outside of a patient’s room. We have panoramic family lounges on each floor, as well as spacious public waiting areas for you to relax.
Meeting a new member of the family is one of life’s most precious moments.
Here are some tips for visiting once mom is back home
- Before you visit, ask the new parents what they really want. Sometimes they are reluctant to tell loved ones that they need some time alone with the new baby. Ask and see what they say.
- Offer to visit in a week or so at home.
- If the new parents want you to be there, keep the visits short so mom and baby don’t get tired.
- Be mindful of passing the new baby from person to person. Over stimulation and fussiness can result. Also, this can expose the baby to illnesses or other problems.
In our Antepartum suites:
- Patients are allowed to have 4 visitors at a time during visiting hours (7:00 AM to 9:00 PM).
- 1 visitor (14 years and older) may stay with patient overnight.
- Patients are allowed to have 2 visitors while in surgery areas including preop, surgery, recovery and postop.
- Patients are allowed to have 4 visitors on the inpatient surgery unit during visiting hours (7:00 AM - 9:00 PM).
- 1 visitor (14 years and older may stay with the patient overnight.
Guidelines for visiting a patient after surgery
- Minimize talking as a courtesy to resting patients.
- Woman's has several private designated waiting areas for visitors, including family lounges and public areas. Due to safety and privacy concerns, please avoid waiting in the hallways of patient care areas.
- Do not bring food or coffee into the room. Food smells can make the patient feel queasy.
- Promote rest by limiting light, noise and touch. Do not turn on the TV unless the patient requests. Silence ringers on all phones.
- We do not recommend bringing infants or children to visit the day of surgery.
- Parents are welcomed in the NICU 24/7. Siblings are welcomed with parents from (9:00 AM - 9:00 PM).
- All parents, siblings and visitors are still required to check in at the main hospital entrance front desk to receive their Fast Pass visitor badge.
- Parents must list all siblings on the NICU Family Support Visitor Identification form. The front desk technician will verify the list before siblings enter the NICU.
- Visitors and siblings will be given a health screen at the NICU desk before entry to the unit. If you or your other children are not feeling well, please stay home; visitors will not be allowed in the unit with any upper respiratory symptoms or fever.
- Siblings must be at least 2 years old to enter the NICU.
- Siblings must be accompanied by parents at all times.
- If there is only one parent visiting with a patient's siblings, one additional visitor may assist with visiting children.
- If both parents are visiting with a patient's siblings, this is considered bonding time, no other visitors are allowed during this time.
- Visitors and support persons may visit from (9:00 AM - 9:00 PM).
- Only two visitors (12 years or older) at a time are allowed at the bedside per family, regardless of single/multiple birth.

- Patients are allowed to have 2 visitors during visiting hours (7:00 AM to 9:00 PM).
- 1 (14 years and older) may stay with patient overnight.
- Due to their medical conditions, patients need to remain in a calm, quiet environment.
- For obstetrical patients, we will make every effort to allow the baby in for short visits.
- Your visitor will be asked to go to the AICU family room during certain procedures.
- No outside food or drinks are allowed in the patient's room.
- Your visitor should wash their hands or use hand sanitizer when entering the room and often while visiting.
- A guest with coughs and colds, fever, or recent exposure to illness may not visit.
- The nurse or physician can override general visiting guidelines.
- During an emergency situation, all visitors will be asked to leave the unit. Once the emergency is clear, the visitor will be allowed to return to the bedside.
- 1 adult visitor during infusion
- 1 adult visitor may stay with patients overnight if admitted to the hospital. Children of the patient may also visit between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM for cancer patients who are admitted to the hospital.
- Check with your provider for visitation policies during all other appointments and services.
