Heart Disease, Prevention and Screening

What is Heart Disease?

A heart attack happens when an artery becomes blocked, preventing oxygen and nutrients from getting to the heart. Often referred to simply as heart disease, it is one of several cardiovascular diseases, which are diseases of the heart and blood vessel system. Other cardiovascular diseases include stroke, high blood pressure, angina and rheumatic heart disease.

Heart Disease Prevention

While some factors for controlling your risk of heart disease are out of your hands – such as family history, gender or age – there are many steps you can take to keep your heart healthy.

You can avoid heart problems in the future by adopting a healthy lifestyle today. From changing your diet to increasing your fitness habits, you can control your heart’s health.

Heart Screening

Woman’s offers calcium scoring, a screening for plaque in the coronary arteries, to help catch heart disease before symptoms occur.

This non-invasive test uses a special X-ray procedure called Computed Tomography (CT) to check for the buildup of calcium on the walls of the arteries of the heart. This screening is safe and painless and takes 30 minutes to perform.

  • Offered to women and men
  • Costs $99 and is not covered by insurance
