Improving Maternal Health Through Statewide Initiatives

As a partner in multiple statewide programs, Woman's Hospital helps translate public health strategies into clinical practice, bringing innovative models of care directly to patients and families throughout Louisiana.

Partnering with the Louisiana Department of Health

Improving maternal health requires more than innovation within a single hospital—it requires collaboration across healthcare systems, public health agencies, and community partners. Woman's Hospital works closely with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) to implement evidence-based initiatives designed to address some of the state's most pressing maternal health challenges.

Supporting Maternal Health Through Statewide Initiatives

Among these collaborations is Project M.O.M. (Maternal Overdose Mortality), an LDH initiative focused on reducing maternal morbidity and mortality associated with substance use disorders. Through this program as a Catalyst Site, Woman's Hospital participates in efforts to strengthen screening, care coordination, provider education, and access to treatment resources for pregnant and postpartum patients.

Woman's also participates in the Louisiana Bridge Program, a statewide initiative modeled after the nationally recognized California Bridge Program. The program aims to improve access to evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders by supporting rapid treatment initiation, overdose prevention, and connection to ongoing care. As part of this effort, clinical teams receive specialized training, and substance use navigators help connect patients with treatment and recovery resources.

Turning Public Health Innovation into Clinical Practice

Successful public health initiatives depend on effective implementation at the point of care. By participating in programs such as Project M.O.M. and Louisiana Bridge, Woman's serves as a key clinical partner in bringing innovative approaches to maternal and behavioral health into everyday practice.

These collaborations help strengthen care delivery, improve access to evidence-based treatment, and support statewide efforts to improve outcomes for mothers and families across Louisiana.

Looking Ahead

Woman's remains committed to partnering with state and community organizations to address emerging healthcare challenges through innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Through these efforts, we help advance solutions that extend beyond our walls and contribute to healthier communities throughout Louisiana.
