Breakthrough Devices

At Woman’s, we collaborate with industry, academic, and research partners to evaluate novel diagnostic and medical devices designed to improve women’s health outcomes.

Bringing emerging technologies from development to real-world patient care.

Our research teams have participated in multiple clinical trials supporting FDA submissions for devices that have received the FDA Breakthrough Device Designation—a program intended to accelerate technologies with the potential to provide more effective diagnosis or treatment for serious conditions.

These collaborations include participation in studies evaluating:

  • The Teal Wand, an at-home cervical cancer screening device designed to expand access to screening and improve patient experience.
  • The ENCOMPASS test, a blood-based predictive tool aimed at identifying risk for preeclampsia earlier in pregnancy.
  • The Oli wearable, a maternal health monitoring technology focused on improving remote physiologic monitoring during pregnancy and postpartum care.

Several of these innovations have also received national recognition. The Teal Wand and ENCOMPASS were named to the TIME Best Inventions of 2025 list, highlighting their potential to transform women’s healthcare through earlier detection, improved accessibility, and patient-centered design.

By participating in groundbreaking device research, Woman’s Hospital helps advance technologies that may shape the future of screening, diagnosis, and maternal care—while ensuring patients in our region have access to cutting-edge clinical research opportunities.
