Dr. Elizabeth Sutton Honored as a Top Forty Under 40 by the Baton Rouge Business Report

Woman’s Hospital is pleased to announce that Dr. Elizabeth Sutton, director of research, has been selected as one of this year’s Baton Rouge Business Report’s Forty Under 40 honorees. Recognized nationally as a leader in women’s healthcare research, Dr. Sutton has overseen the enrollment of more than 8,000 participants in clinical studies, authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, and led several research projects sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. Included among the community-based programs she has developed are Well Mama and Her Health, which are designed to support pregnancy and postpartum health through doulas and community health workers. In addition, she has been instrumental in establishing key partnerships with leading institutions, including LSU, Tulane, University of Pittsburgh, Northwestern, Rutgers, and Pennington Biomedical.

Dr. Sutton also serves as the director of the OB-GYN Residency Research Program at Woman’s and leads hospital initiatives focused on reducing preterm births, reducing postpartum readmissions, and improving clinical management of diabetes in pregnancy. She has co-led two groundbreaking studies including the Teal Wand, the first FDA-approved at-home HPV test, and the Encompass Preeclampsia Test, a predictive screening currently pending FDA approval.

Dedicated to turning her research into actionable steps to improve maternal and women’s health, Dr. Sutton also strongly believes in giving back to her community through mentoring the next generation of scientists and advocates.
