Woman's Hospital Weight Loss Surgery Program Achieves National Re-Accreditation
Today, Woman’s Hospital announced it has received national re-accreditation through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Woman’s has achieved this honor since its first accreditation in 2016.
“This accomplishment reflects the dedication, collaboration, and high standards upheld by everyone and every department involved in the care of our patients,” said Alicia Plumer, director of perioperative services. “Re-accreditation is not just a milestone, it is a testament to the consistent excellence our team brings to our work every day.”
MBSAQIP is a comprehensive, nationwide surgical quality program aimed at ensuring the safe and effective performance of metabolic and bariatric surgery. To earn re-accreditation, Woman’s demonstrated exceptional support services and personalized care for weight loss surgery patients. Patients have access to Woman’s multidisciplinary team, including a certified bariatric nurse coordinator, clinical reviewer and registered dietitian. Our team collaborates to ensure each patient receives the necessary tools, education and resources to achieve optimal outcomes before, during and after their procedure.
Together, Woman’s registered dietitians and exercise physiologists design nutrition and fitness plans to meet the specific needs of each patient. In addition, monthly support group sessions led by a bariatric dietitian and a social worker are made available to all weight loss surgery patients.
The MBSAQIP is a joint quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
