To help guide you throughout your breastfeeding journey, Woman’s Hospital offers lactation consultations with lactation specialists, healthcare professionals specially trained to support expectant and breastfeeding moms.

During these consultations, our experienced lactation specialists will work with you to offer personalized, one-on-one support and help you meet your breastfeeding goals with confidence. They can also help address common questions and concerns, including:

Difficulty with latching
Nipple pain or discomfort
Questions about breastfeeding positions
Concerns about milk supply
Questions about baby’s feeding signs
Feeding schedules and routines
Baby's weight gain and feeding effectiveness
Pumping and returning to work
Expressing breast milk by hand

Prenatal lactation consultations are also available to help you prepare for breastfeeding before your baby arrives. During a prenatal consultation, a lactation specialist can answer your questions, discuss your plans and goals for breastfeeding, and provide information to help you feel prepared for the early days of breastfeeding.

What to Expect During a Consultation

During your consultation, you'll receive personalized guidance based on your needs. Our lactation specialists will assess feeding challenges, provide practical techniques that fit your lifestyle, and help you build confidence in caring for your baby.

Most consultation appointments last between and hour and an hour and a half.
