A Huge Team Caring for the Tiniest Babies

Woman's Newborn and Infant Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is Level III, the highest designation. We provide comprehensive care for the sickest babies, whether they are premature or unwell after birth at all gestational ages.

Around-the-Clock Specialized Care

Our Newborn and Infant Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is equipped to care for sick or premature infants who require constant monitoring. Our designation as a Level III Regional Referral Center means we have a neonatologist and anesthesiologist available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our caring team of neonatologists and specially trained nurses will monitor your baby’s condition at all times by direct observation, and by using the latest specialized equipment and technology available.

We recognize and welcome you as the most important member of your baby’s care team. Our single-family rooms allow intensive, personalized care while giving your family room to spend more quality time with your baby and learn to care for his medical needs.

Always Improving on Exceptional

As a Level III Regional Referral Center, Woman’s is part of a select group of hospitals in the nation who can provide quality care for the smallest and sickest babies. We also participate in the Vermont Oxford Quality Improvement Collaborative with 500 other NICU’s across the country to keep abreast of the latest research and emerging practices that offer the best care for premature and critically ill babies.

What to Expect in the NICU

Often these babies will have been born before 28 weeks' gestation, need surgery, or are more seriously ill newborns.
