Woman's provides inpatient care for women with high-risk pregnancies in Antepartum. Nurses are specially trained to care for women confined to bed with conditions including high blood pressure, preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes and other problems that sometimes occur with pregnancy.
Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists work with your obstetrician to offer care for all types of pregnancy complications, including:
- Premature labor
- Premature rupture of membranes
- Gestational diabetes
- Maternal hypertension
- Multiple births
As a Level III Regional Referral Facility for obstetrical and neonatal care, we have a maternal-fetal medicine physician available to you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Diagnostic tests available at Maternal-Fetal Medicine include:
- High-resolution ultrasound
- Fetal heart studies and echocardiograms
- Umbilical blood sampling
- Genetic tests such as amniocentesis, and screenings for Down syndrome and spina bifida
Services also include counseling for conditions such as Tay-Sachs disease, sickle cell anemia and other genetic conditions.
If you doctor has determined that your condition is urgent and requires constant monitoring, you may be admitted to the Adult ICU (AICU). This unit has specially trained nurses to provide the best patient-centered care and monitoring of your condition.
