National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Prevent drug misuse by turning in unused or expired medications.
Prescription Drug Take Back Day at Woman’s Hospital
Woman’s Pharmacy is excited to announce that we will once again be a host site for this valuable community service. Now is a good time to clean out your cabinets and bag-up those unwanted medications.
Join representatives of the local U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Woman’s Pharmacy for this annual event. This is a low, to no-contact program for safe disposal of old prescriptions.
HERE’S HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
- Drive up to Woman’s Hospital’s MAIN Entrance 1 on 100 Woman’s Way. Stay in your vehicle as this is a drive-through event.
- Drop off your expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs or have a representative get them from your vehicle.
- Law enforcement safely disposes of everything that is collected.
DO BRING:
- Old and/or expired tablets, capsules, patches and other forms of prescription drugs
- Unused prescription drugs
- Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain tightly sealed in their original container.
- Vaping or e-cigarette devices and cartridges provided lithium batteries are removed
DO NOT BRING:
- Liquids (including intravenous solutions) syringes and other sharps, and illicit drugs
A majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. The DEA’s Take-Back Day provides an opportunity for the community to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
All solid dosage pharmaceuticals products and liquid in consumer containers may be accepted. Liquid products, such as cough syrups, should remain tightly sealed in its original container, unless the location has proper disposal material, such as kitty litter. Intravenous solutions, injectables, and syringes will not be accepted due to potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens. Illicit substances such as marijuana and methamphetamines are not part of this initiative and should not be placed in collection containers.
