SPEAKER

Smita Prasad, MD, MPH, MBA, FASAM

Dr. Prasad is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine. She completed her residency at the Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program in 2016 and later pursued fellowship training in addiction medicine at Tulane University. As a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, she has been actively involved in advocating for expansion of addiction treatment and standardization of addiction medicine education. Currently, she serves as the Secretary of the Louisiana Society of Addiction Medicine and as the medical director for two sober living facilities in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.


Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Explain what addiction is, how it affects brain function, and impacts behavior.
  • Recall evidence-based multidisciplinary care strategies to support the health outcomes of patients with substance use disorder.
  • Describe risk factors that increase a person’s chances of developing a substance use disorder.
