Car Seat Safety

Keep Your Child Safe on the Road

As a new parent, you want to keep your baby safe. One of the most important things you can do is selecting the safest possible vehicle and the best fit, size and type of car seat. Louisiana law requires you to buckle up your children in proper car seats. Child safety seats, when used correctly, can save lives and prevent injuries.

What to Know Before Buying a New Car Seat

  • Ask your vehicle’s manufacturer for recommendations about specific brands of child safety seats for the vehicle you own.
  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration publishes ratings for child safety seats by how easy they are to install correctly.
  • Install your child safety seat according to the seat and your vehicle’s instructions.
  • Have a certified child passanger safety technician check your child safety seat.
  • Head supports, harness pads, mirrors and toys that did not come with your car seat have not been crash tested with your seat. There is no way to know how these additional products may affect the safety of your child’s car seat.

Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 14 and younger. Child safety seats, when used correctly, can save lives and prevent injuries.

    Check for Child in Backseat

Looking back can save your child's life. Our tags serve as a reminder to check for your child in the backseat. Hang the tag on your rearview mirror, and remember to "look back for our future."
