Why Clinical Trials Are Important
When fighting cancer, there’s an extraordinary level of collaboration required from diagnosis to treatment to rehabilitation. Clinical trials are one of the most important steps in detecting, diagnosing and treating breast and gynecologic cancers.
The Breast and GYN Pavilion unites Woman's specialists in women’s health with cancer experts from Mary Bird Perkins Lady of the Lake Cancer Center in one location. This partnership through The Sisterhood provides women in the greater Baton Rouge region better access to cancer clinical trials than ever before.
Types of Clinical Trials
Clinical trials enhance standard cancer treatments, resulting in improved patient outcomes and survival rates. We conduct oncology clinical trials to test the following:
- New drugs or a new combination of drug treatments (A drug must be part of a clinical trial before the FDA will approve it to be put on the market)
- Surgical techniques
- Radiation therapies
- Medical devices
