Oncology Social Workers

Additional support for cancer patients (survivors) and their families.

Our goal is to help families manage all phases of their cancer journey and maintain continuity of care with other services.

Oncology social workers help patients and families by:

  • Assessing their understanding of their diagnosis and treatment and translating information into “lay language,” as needed, to help them understand how cancer will impact their daily activities.
  • Helping patients cope through relaxation exercises and supportive counseling.
  • Facilitating involvement in support groups.
  • Making referrals for financial concerns, home health, transportation assistance, hospice, etc.
Oncology social work support is available through referrals, which are made based on identified needs and available resources.
