Breast Cancer Surgery
Surgery is the most common treatment for breast cancer. Woman's breast cancer surgeons perform a range of procedures depending on the size and stage of the breast cancer. The goal of surgery is to remove all of the cancer from the breast and preserve the health of the patient.
Types of Breast Cancer Surgery
- Breast conservation surgery: Complete removal of the breast cancer with as little loss to the woman’s natural breast is a top priority as Woman’s. When possible, we promote a more conservative surgery option to preserve the shape and feel of the woman’s natural breast. Breast conservation surgeries include lumpectomy and partial mastectomy.
- Lumpectomy: A lumpectomy is the removal of the breast cancer and a portion of normal tissue surrounding the mass.
- Mastectomy: There are various types of mastectomies, with each differing in the amount of breast tissue removed.
- Hidden scar breast surgery: This surgery minimizes visible scarring by removing cancerous tissue through a single incision, usually along the edge of the nipple or the underside of the breast.
- Breast reconstruction: Breast reconstruction involves creating a breast mound that comes as close as possible to the form and appearance of the woman’s natural breast.
- Needle localization biopsy: This type of biopsy is performed before surgery when you have an abnormality that cannot be felt.
