Only U.S. hospital recognized for gynecology and maternity care

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Woman’s has been recognized on Newsweek’s list of World’s Best Hospitals again in 2022, this year for gynecology and maternity care. Woman’s is one of only five hospitals in the world and the only in the United States to be recognized for these specialties.

Woman’s delivers approximately 8,000 babies each year and is the largest delivery hospital in Louisiana, welcoming more than 375,000 babies since opening in 1968. The hospital also performed the most-ever surgeries in 2021 with 8,666 cases, more than 50% of those related to gynecologic health. Woman’s is currently the only freestanding, private, non-profit specialty hospital for women and infants in the United States.

“I truly believe our team at Woman’s is one of the best in the world, and being recognized on a global level for our patient satisfaction scores and medical outcomes is a reminder that our community believes it too,” said Cheri Johnson, MSN, RNC-OB, Woman’s senior vice president of patient care and chief nursing officer. “We love taking care of women and babies and helping to bring new life into the world. Just playing a small part in that journey is rewarding for everyone in our organization who contributes in their own unique way.”

Woman’s continuously strives to provide women and infants with the best and safest care. The hospital has been designated a Birth Ready+ facility by the Louisiana Department of Health for its work in improving perinatal and neonatal outcomes across Louisiana. Woman’s has also received the Guardian of Excellence Award from Press Ganey for seven consecutive years for being in the top 5 percent in the country for patient experience.

The World’s Best Hospitals ranking, now in its fourth year, is intended to be a resource to help patients make a more informed and data-driven decision when choosing the right hospital for their medical needs.

This award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., using a methodology to ensure quality and validity in certain data sets:

  • Hospital recommendations from peers: an international online survey that included more than 80,000 doctors, hospital managers and healthcare professionals
  • Patient experience: surveys measuring patient satisfaction with hospitals
  • Medical outcomes: patient safety, hygiene measures and quality of treatment
