One of only 16 specialty hospitals in U.S. to make the list

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Woman’s has been recognized on Newsweek’s list of World’s Best Hospitals 2021, one of only 16 specialty hospitals in the United States to earn this distinction. The recognition is for oncology care provided at Woman's Hospital and the Breast & GYN Cancer Pavilion, a partnership with Mary Bird Perkins-Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center.

The Pavilion is the only facility of its kind that enables women to receive state-of-the-art care close to home from three trusted organizations working collaboratively. The only other U.S. specialty hospitals recognized for cancer care were MD Anderson and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

The World’s Best Hospitals ranking, now in its third year, is intended to be a resource to help patients make a more informed and data-driven decision when choosing the right hospital for their medical needs.

“We take pride in the care provided here at Woman’s, and it’s an honor when we are recognized for our commitment to excellence and the lives we touch,” said Barbara Griffith, MD, president and CEO of Woman’s Hospital. “To know that our patients and peers consider us to be one of the best in the world speaks volumes. And through collaboration with Mary Bird Perkins – Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center, we are able to offer women with cancer an individualized experience unlike any other in the country.”

The Pavilion has delivered more than 55,000 services since it opened in 2018 -- including early detection screenings, surgeries, treatments, survivorship services and other programs to women across Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas.

This award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., using a methodology to ensure quality and validity in certain data sets:

  • Hospital recommendations from peers: an international online survey that included more than 74,000 doctors, managers and healthcare professionals
  • Patient experience: surveys measuring patient satisfaction with hospitals
  • Medical outcomes: patient safety, hygiene measures and quality of treatment
