Woman's patient satisfaction ranks top five percent in the U.S.

BATON ROUGE, La. – For the fifth consecutive year, Woman’s Hospital has been named a Guardian of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey for its outstanding inpatient experience, ranking the hospital in the top five percent in the U.S. Woman’s is the only hospital in Baton Rouge with more than 25 beds to earn this honor and one of only 15 in Louisiana.

“Everything we do at Woman’s is focused on ensuring our patients receive the best medical care possible. What makes us unique is that we go that extra mile so our patients have an exceptional experience as well,” said Barbara Griffith, MD, president and CEO of Woman’s Hospital.  “We focus on asking, listening and responding to patients’ needs with individualized care. This level of attention makes a difference.”

This is also the first year Woman’s has received the Guardian of Excellence Award® for outpatient satisfaction scores. “We are excited about this additional recognition because we’ve continued to grow and enhance our outpatient services,” Dr. Griffith added.  “Driving high outpatient satisfaction can be challenging as today’s patients are complex and increasingly unique, with different needs and preferences. This award reinforces that we are successful in that balancing act for the majority of our patients.”

Woman’s continually strives to understand what patients want and implement programs to meet those needs. A few initiatives launched in recent years to improve patient experience include:

  • Launching the pregnancy nurse navigator program to support expectant mothers
  • Offering virtual breastfeeding consultations
  • Decreasing wait times in the Assessment Center through workflow improvements
  • Improving care coordination for high-risk pregnancies
  • Installing a sound management system to decrease environmental noise
  • Expanding valet parking services

Additionally, Woman’s has implemented “We C.A.R.E.” service standards that set expectations around what matters most to patients and families. These standards recognize that every encounter is an opportunity to exceed expectations, and all Woman’s employees are trained and evaluated on these measures.

Press Ganey, a leading provider of patient experience measurement and performance analytics for healthcare organizations, gives this award annually to the top organizations who have achieved the 95th percentile or higher for any of a set of designated survey measures, including likelihood to recommend, overall rating and/or teamwork. Woman’s exceeds state and national averages in all measurement categories.

Woman’s Hospital has received multiple prestigious awards in 2019. The organization was also named the Best Place to Work in Healthcare for large employers by Modern Healthcare and as a Best Place to Work in Baton Rouge by the Business Report.
