BATON ROUGE, La. – Barbara Griffith, MD will begin her tenure as the sixth chief executive officer of Woman’s Hospital on October 21. The former chief medical officer of Duke Regional Hospital, who was announced as the new CEO in August, has 20 years of clinical practice experience and more than 15 years in healthcare leadership roles.
“Woman’s Hospital is already known for providing exceptional care and patient experiences, and I’m excited to work alongside the talented physicians, nurses and staff that make it such a special place,” said Dr. Griffith. “I look forward to spending my first few weeks getting to know our team and really becoming immersed in the culture of Woman’s.”
Dr. Griffith received her medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is board certified in emergency medicine and has received training in executive healthcare education at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to serving as chief medical officer at Duke, she also directed business development and strategy for clinical programs and led the charge on excellence in quality and patient safety initiatives.
“As a physician, I have a broad understanding of many different aspects of healthcare and am connected to the needs of our team through personal experience,” said Dr. Griffith. “I am prepared to lead, but also to listen, as Woman’s takes that next step into the future.”
Dr. Griffith joins Woman’s on the heels of the organization being named the No. 1 Best Place to Work in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare.
