Woman's Hospital Again Recognized as a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite

June 10, 2015

Woman's Hospital has struck gold for the second year in a row, again being recognized as a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association. Through its emphasis on nutrition and exercise and by providing employees with healthier lifestyle options, Woman's is taking "important steps to create a culture of wellness by providing support to employees," according to the American Heart Association.

Woman's encourages a healthy lifestyle among its employees through offering healthy food options in the cafeteria and vending machines, organizing a daily employee walking club, hosting seasonal farmers market on the hospital campus and distributing health-related information and tips in employee newsletters. In addition to encouraging its employees to lead a healthier life, Woman's Hospital also offers classes and programs to help the community incorporate heart-heart choices into their lifestyles, such as sponsoring the City of Baton Rouge’s Family Fit Day and joining the city’s Breathe Free campaign to curb tobacco use.

Gold Fit-Friendly Worksites:

  • Offer employees physical activity support
  • Increase healthy eating options at work
  • Promote a wellness culture
  • Adhere to a strict tobacco policy
  • Implement American Heart Association-approved criteria in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture

Woman’s Hospital is the 17th largest women’s specialty hospital in the United States with more than 8,500 births, 44,000 mammograms and 54,000 Pap screens annually. A private, nonprofit organization, Woman’s is consistently recognized for its innovative programs that fulfill its mission to improve the health of women and infants.
