On April 30, 2012, as Louisiana celebrates its 200th birthday, a few lucky babies also celebrated their “birth” day with a bit more fanfare. Woman’s joined other Louisiana hospitals in celebrating the state’s bicentennial by awarding infants born between 12:00 AM and 11:59 PM with an official Louisiana commemorative medallion and certificate.
The medals were distributed Monday, April 30, at Woman’s Hospital (9050 Airline Highway) between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM to women in their individual patient rooms by Bruce D. Greenstein, DHH Secretary; John Matessino, Louisiana Hospital Association President and CEO; and Teri Fontenot, Woman’s Hospital President and CEO.

This unique and distinctive honor is a partnership with the Louisiana Hospital Association and Louisiana Bicentennial Commission to recognize babies born on April 30, the date of Louisiana’s 200th anniversary of statehood. The medals were paid for through sponsorships and donations to the Louisiana Bicentennial Commission.
The limited-edition Commemorative Bicentennial Medal is an updated re-issue of the coin minted by Adler’s in 1912 for the State Centennial. The State Seal is on one side and the silhouette of the state is on the reverse. For more information, visit www.louisianabicentennial2012.com.
