Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss tests ordered for common critical illnesses.
  2. Describe the process by which normal ranges are defined and critical levels identified.
  3. Explain how diseases impact various body systems and lead to abnormal lab findings.
  4.  Review implications of abnormal findings on body systems and expected compensatory responses.
