Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists work with your obstetrician to offer care for all types of medical conditions, including:

• Premature labor
• Premature rupture of membranes
• Maternal diabetes
• Maternal hypertension

Our Facility

Woman's is a Level III Regional Referral Facility for obstetrical and neonatal care. This is the highest care designation a hospital can receive. One of our maternal-fetal medicine physicians is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our Team

The expert staff includes doctors with specialized training and experience in the care of high-risk mothers and their babies including:

• The only board-certified geneticist in Baton Rouge
• Registered nurses
• Certified sonographers (experts trained to perform ultrasound testing)
• Support personnel—all dedicated to the highest standards of care

Our high risk specialists offer services for pregnancies with complications such as:

• Diabetes
• Preterm labor
• High blood pressure
• Multiple births
• Other prenatal complications

Our Services

Multiple diagnostic tests are available through our Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center as well as educational materials regarding various conditions. Services also include counseling for conditions such as cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs disease, sickle cell anemia, and other genetic conditions. 

Woman’s also offers specialty services including:

• Amniocentesis
• High-resolution ultrasound with color Doppler capabilities
• Chorionic villus sampling

Other diagnostic procedures performed include:

• Ultrasounds
• Ultrasound with cord Doppler
• Non-stress tests and biophysical profiles

Support services available for high-risk patients include:

• Nutrition counseling
• Home health care
• Physical therapy
• Social services
• Genetic counseling

You may also need our therapy services to assist in managing the discomforts of pregnancy as well as advice regarding physician-recommended bed rest. Also, high-risk mothers and babies throughout the southeast region can be transported to Woman’s by the neonatal and maternal-fetal transport teams.
