Breast Surgery
Woman's is dedicated to meeting the unique surgical needs of women. Our experience with biopsy, needle localization, general and cosmetic surgery for women far exceeds that of most other hospitals in Louisiana. We offer the latest diagnostic and surgical techniques available in an effort to continue to treat women well.
Common breast surgery procedures
Conservative:
- Lumpectomies
- Mastectomies
- Sentinel lymph node biopsies
More Extensive:
- Total reconstructive procedures
- Modified or simple mastectomy
- Removal of the lymph nodes.
Other Procedures:
- Breast enhancing surgery (augmentation)
- Breast reduction
Breast Reconstruction
Nearly one-third of breast cancer patients still require a mastectomy (removal of the breast or breasts). However, with advances in reconstruction surgery, about one-third of these women have their breast(s) rebuilt creating a breast mound that comes as close as possible to the form and appearance of the natural breast. Ask your doctor if you are a candidate for breast reconstructive surgery.
Our Team
Our nurses, technicians and nursing assistants have extensive experience in caring for women with medical and surgical needs. A supporting team comprised of dietitians, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, home care nurses, and providers of pastoral care further addresses the needs of our patients.
It is important for you to be prepared for surgery and to take an active part in your recovery.
Woman's Hospital's cancer program is accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. The Commission on Cancer presented Woman's Hospital with the Outstanding Achievement Award for Excellence in Cancer Care.
