After your baby is born at Woman’s Hospital, we perform several tests to screen for possible health problems. Some babies appear healthy, but have a rare health condition that can cause serious problems. If a condition is discovered early through newborn screening, there are often treatments available to help the infant lead a more normal life.
We routinely perform key blood tests on newborn infants. These newborn blood tests check for the possibility that an infant may have inherited a metabolic disorder.
Also, the Newborn Hearing Screening Program provides a hearing screening for every infant born at Woman’s. This hearing screening is performed by a hearing screening technician and supervised by a certified audiologist.
