Weight Loss Surgery: Support
Meeting people who are going through the same adjustments could be tremendously helpful to you and to your long-term weight loss success. Woman’s Hospital hosts a monthly support group meeting open to all bariatric patients. Most bariatric surgeons recommend ongoing support, such as a support group, to help you achieve the greatest level of success. Meetings often feature an expert to cover a requested educational topic during the first half. For the second half, the group conversation steers the topic and is supported by group facilitators and healthcare staff including a social worker, a registered dietitian and a registered nurse. The meetings provide an excellent opportunity to talk about personal issues for which the group offers support and feedback. Members keep each other motivated, celebrate victories, and provide perspective on the everyday successes and challenges.
Support group meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Conference Room 3 located in Woman’s Hospital. Meetings are free and open to the community’s weight loss surgical patients. People who have had surgery, are in the pre-operative process or are considering weight loss surgery are always welcome, regardless of surgical facility, surgeon or surgery type.
