The 2013 March for Babies event will be held on Saturday, April 27 at AZ Young Park at 755 3rd Street.
— Kicking off the lunchtime exercise will be Woman’s President and CEO, Teri Fontenot, the 2013 Baton Rouge March for Babies chair; this year’s March of Dimes Ambassador Mom; and Woman’s Chief of Neonatology.

— One of the best ways to prevent birth defects is through “preconception care,” or improving a woman’s health habits to improve her chances of getting pregnant, having a healthy pregnancy and having a healthy baby. These include the following:
- Take 0.4 to 0.8 mg of folic acid every day.
- Stop smoking and drinking alcohol.
- If you have a medical condition, be sure it is under control.
- Talk to your doctor about any over-the-counter and prescription medicines.
- Avoid contact with toxic substances or materials that could cause infection at work and at home.
