Local Schools Support Woman’s Hospital’s Breast Cancer Care

On Friday, October 26, both Hosanna Christian Academy and Northeast High School showed their school spirit for Woman’s Hospital by raising nearly $2,000 towards the hospital’s breast cancer outreach and education programs.

At Hosanna Christian Academy, Jaheim Holden, a fifth grader and vice-president of his class at Hosanna Christian Academy, led a one-mile walk-a-thon around the campus of more than 200 students around his school’s campus. Students paid $3 each to wear pink and participate in the walk. According to his family, Jaheim was inspired by his grandmother, Patricia Girtly, an employee of Woman’s, to do something to help fight breast cancer. The students raised $300 and enjoyed pink cupcakes, provided by Jaheim’s family, afterwards.

At the Northeast High School Homecoming game, Woman’s was presented with $1,500 from the school’s cheerleaders and dance team. The students sold pink t-shirts throughout October to help Woman’s Mobile Mammography Coach, which travels to 50 different community locations in 15 Louisiana parishes.
