New Woman’s Surgery

“You have to have surgery” are words any woman may hear at some point in her life. At the new Woman’s, the process of undergoing surgery has been designed to reduce feelings of anxiety and nervousness that often accompany a surgical appointment.

Centrally located on the 2nd floor of the hospital directly above the main entrance, Woman’s surgical care unit is the hub for all scheduled surgeries. Our convenient elevator takes patients and their family members directly from the first floor to the Surgical Care Unit. Patients having a same-day or an inpatient surgery procedure will report to this area. The main entrance includes temporary parking spaces designed for easy drop-off of surgery patients. Medical/Surgery patient rooms are located on the 5th floor. There is also a special covered discharge area for surgical patients, on the west side of the hospital.

Our job is to work together with our patients on providing exceptional care, and that starts with an informed patient. Anxiety over surgery can be greatly reduced, and the patient generally has a better surgical outcome if she and her family know what to expect.

On the day of surgery, the patient will be directed to the Surgery for admission and pre-operative preparation. Before bringing the patient to the Operating Room, Woman’s staff reviews and reinforces what to expect during and after surgery. To ease emotions, family members are allowed to visit until the time of surgery.

Surgery also impacts a woman’s family, so for their convenience, the waiting area overlooks the main lobby entrance and has a view through the two-story floor-to-ceiling windows. Inpatients and patients requiring an overnight stay will be cared for in large private rooms. Each room is 390 square feet in size, features comfortable seating, and offers a pleasant window view of the landscape. With wood doors and carpeted hallways, all of Woman’s units are designed to provide a quiet area for rest.

For family and friends, a large waiting area on each post-operative unit is available. The waiting area has floor-to-ceiling windows and a panoramic view overlooking the Woman’s lake. It provides a designated area to relax or work. Hospital-wide Wi-Fi is available. After surgery, family members can be with the patient in her room. All the rooms are private with their own private bathroom. The unit is designed to provide a quiet private area.

Woman’s always strives to provide exceptional care. At the new campus, thoughtful measures have been taken to improve efficiency, comfort and the overall patient experience. The new hospital, located at the corner of Airline Highway and Stumberg, near Pecue Lane, opened August 5, 2012.
