Care and Compassion: End of Life Issues When a Baby Dies

End of life issues are always difficult to address.  However, when dealing with the death of an infant, it is particulary difficult for all concerned.  Come and learn ways to make membories for the grieving family, how to care for the family, and how to address your own feelings.

Target Audience:  RN's, LPN's, Social Workers

Objectives:
  Upon completion of the program, the participant will be able to:

  • Discuss the parents expectations of a normal pregnancy and birhg
  • Delineate the role of the nurse in caring for a patient experiencing a perinatal loss
  • Outline the grievieng process and discuss therapiutic interventions
  • Describe and demonstrate photographing the infant
  • Describe and demonstrate ways to make memories
  • Explain how to address cosmetice problems
  • Discuss the preparation of the body for the morgue
  • Explore your feelings and reactions toward the infant's death and ho to care for yourself

Our facilitator is Debbie Fowler, RN, Staff Nurse, Perinatal End of Life Specialist.

Designation Statement

3.83 Contact Hours are awarded for this continuing education offering by Woman's Hospital of Baton Rouge, an approved provider of nursing continuing education credit.  You must attend the entire program and complete the evaluation form to receive the contact hours.

This program was approved by the national association of Social Workers-Louisiana Chapter for 4.0(General) Contact Hours of continuing education credit.  You must attend the entire program and complet the evaluation form to receive the contact hours.
