Geaux Strong

Geaux Strong is an eight-week program designed to build endurance and independence in the water for children with special needs, including those diagnosed with:

  • Swim Strong Cerebral palsy
  • Spina bifida
  • Developmental delay
  • Asperger’s syndrome
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Childhood cancer
  • Genetic disorders

Geaux Strong offers special needs children the opportunity to improve their fitness level in an aquatic environment that builds strength, confidence and socialization.

Additional program goals include:
  • Improve the independence and safety of children with special needs (mild to severe) in an aquatic environment.
  • Expose participants to successful young adults with mobility challenges.
  • Transition children with special needs from a swim program overseen by therapists to a swim program or team within the community with their peers.
  • Offer volunteer opportunities to students who may be interested in education, medicine, therapy and health sciences.

Geaux Strong is supported by a generous grant from ForeKids! Foundation.
