Five years ago I was facing knee surgery and wanted an alternative measure before the knife. I hobbled into the Fitness Club at Woman’s Center for Wellness asking for the ‘meanest’ trainer on two legs. The voices of three young ladies exclaimed in unison, ‘Pam Stone!’ Actually, I’m blessed to have her in my life forbidding me to slack off. Continue reading "Member Spotlight" | What Others are Saying Devin, 45, Baton Rouge: I have 17-year-old triplets who are juniors at Baton Rouge High School, and I work with a company that specializes in strategic leadership development and succession planning. I completed my first sprint triathlon in May 2008 and loved it!
Exercise keeps me strong, and helps me reduce stress and keep my life in perspective. I like being able to do anything – to be as active and physical as I want to be. I enjoy the benefits of feeling strong, having energy, and keeping up with three teenagers. I’ve pretty much exercised since I was 17 but my intensity level has increased or decreased based on what was happening in my life.
I believe exercise is part of a balanced life and helps keep me healthy mentally, emotionally and physically.
It’s really important for me to keep in shape now so that I stay in good health into my old age. But really I get inspiration from all kinds of things including all the other people at the gym that are working hard and training. Also, Kelley Leblanc (Fitness Coordinator) keeps me motivated with great workouts. It’s inspirational when people “fist pump” and “high five” at the gym. We should do more of this. (See the staff if you do not know how to do these inspirational moves). Nancy, Baton Rouge: I have been a member of the Fitness Club for almost two years. I really enjoy strength training. I especially like exercises with the stability balls. I started working out regularly with a personal trainer. I had some friends that were working with trainers at the time, and I was really impressed with what it did for them. I decided I wanted to try it for myself.
I try to work out three to four days a week. On a good week, I manage to get in five days! Now that I am exercising regularly, I feel better! I have more energy and stamina during regular daily activities. I have also improved my blood pressure and cholesterol. Not to mention, I have also lost weight and inches in the process!
During the last hurricane season, I lost my home, my car, and most of my belongings. Coming to work out at the club was the only escape I had at the time. The point is – I kept coming! Exercising was a good stress reliever, and I really think it helped me cope with everything that was going on in my life at the time.
I gain inspiration every time I reach a new level. I feel really proud of myself. It inspires me to reach further. I know now that my goals are attainable. [ Show All Stories ]
